Artist's Description
This poppy just showed up in my yard. At first, I did not like it because it was in a place that was not for flowers, however, it has been a very hardy perennial an I have started to enjoy having it around. I have been told its an opium poppy, but I suspect of very low potency. Its petals resemble shredded purple toilet paper. Here it is photographed against a background of handmade blue paper.
About Jean Noren
My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.

How fun that it just popped up! I actually saw this poppy online and tracked it down last year. I bought 3 plants, but now I don't remember if I planted them in the yard, or in pots! I just hope they come back this year...and, I will be as surprised as you were! :-) Beautiful work, Jean!! f/l
