Description
A juvenile western Bluebird watches intently to see if one of the worms moves. Parents are nearby and frequently feed him, but if it takes too long, he leans over and helps himself.
Western Bluebirds are often seen perching alone on fence wires, posts, snags, or tree branches by open meadows, pouncing on the ground to catch insects. They also fly out to catch aerial prey and grab insects from twigs and leaves. This one however is perched on a log that is resting on my deck. Who's family come daily to feast on the meal worms that I have put out for them.
