A Pacific Tree Frog creeps over the edge of a glass vase. The male frogs dark gold throat is its vocal sack, which puffs out when it vocalizes. Despite its small size, this little frog is a prodigious noisemaker. The calling of the males, which can be heard nearly a mile away, is used to attract mates and ward off other males. Frog music is heard most often in the spring, but treefrogs vocalize all year unless the temperature dips below freezing. Interestingly, the frogs coordinate their vocalizations, creating a frog chorus. One male acts as the chorus master and starts calling. Other males in the vicinity gradually join in as the chorus swells.
My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.
