Description
Head to head with a box turtle. The box turtle (Terrapene), or box tortoise is a genus of turtle native to North America (United States and Mexico). It is largely characterized by having a domed shell, which is hinged at the bottom, allowing the animal to close its shell tightly to escape predators. This one lived in my office garden for 30 years. He was not particularly affectionate, but was entertaining, and good company.

Thanks Bruce. I had to wait a while until he felt like staying out of his shell.
