Description
Snapper are named for there habit of snapping their jaws when hooked which seems like a reasonable thing to try if you have a fishhook in your lips. This one is about a foot long which is a typical size. It also has the usual large lips, teeth and an upturned snout. They feed at night on crustaceans and smaller fish, although it is not at all uncommon to see them swimming around during the day as this one is. There is a large concrete structure in the background which acts as an artificial reef, a mooring and a landmark for SCUBA divers. You can appreciate the great visibility of the water. This is about 30 feet down.
