A delicate little wildflower found hidden in the woods along the banks of the Nestucca River in Western Oregon. The black background helps make this tiny flower more dramatic. Most likely a Disporum smithii,or Smiths fairybell. Also known as a fairy lantern.
My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.

Gorgeous image of what appears to be Utah Honeysuckle! L/F
Jean Noren replied:
Thank you William. Your description prompted me to do some research. This was taken along the forest floor and Western Oregon. I think it's more likely to be a Disporum smithii or Smiths fairybell. Thank you for making me do my homework
