This was one of many preying mantids found along the bottom edge of a friends home. There were also a number of spiders, so I suspect there was an ample supple of tiny bugs for these predators to devour. The angle of the shot makes it appear that this insect is lying down on the job but he is actually on his way up the wall.
My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.
