Description
This was taken during a bicycle ride along the Banks to Vernonia trail in Oregon. The trail was originally railroad line built in 1913 for freight and passengers. The railroad stopped using it in 1957 after the mills closed. Oregon dept of transportation bought the right of way in 1974 shortly after it was abandoned by the railroad. Right of way was transferred to Parks and Rec in 1990. Over the subsequent years it has been paved and made into a wonderful linear park. No motorized vehicles are allowed and on any nice day you will see walkers, bikers, dogs and horses. If you go on a week day or travel further up the trail, you will be blessed with the type of solitude that this image projects. The trail is very gradually uphill and not difficult to cycle. Going back is almost all downhill and a wonderful rush.
