Artist's Description

An almost square photograph of a perfect open orange poppy. I picked this flower as a tightly closed bud but it opened up completely in the time it took to set up this shot. I love the wrinkles in the petals which are due to being crammed into the tight bud. The flower is in focus from front to back and all the beautiful hairs on the stem can be clearly seen because I used focus stacking. This is stacking multiple images with different points of focus to make sure the entire subject is in focus. As the flower warmed up, it started to lean. The leaning allows you to see the flower from an interesting angle, giving it more personality

About Jean Noren

Jean Noren

My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.
