Description
It has every right to show off its stunning colors. Taken in the fall in the Japanese garden in Portland, Oregon.
Carl Peter Thunberg, a Swedish physician traveled to Japan late in the eighteenth century and made drawings of a small tree that he named palmatum after the hand-like shape of its leaves. These trees are relatively easy to cultivate and there are many cultivars available. I have a number of different ones on my property and really enjoy the color changes in the fall. The trees at the Japanese garden are expertly cared for and look beautiful in every season.
