A daylight photo of a closed coral which hides the feeding polyps and just shows the abstract design of the skeletal structure. This is a calcium compound and rigid. I find it hard to imagine where the soft polyps protrude as there does not appear to be any openings. Just another one of the mysteries of nature.

My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible.
