A male western bluebird contemplates a Honey crisp apple. Photo by Jean Noren
My passion is underwater and nature photography. I particularly like finding patterns and designs in nature and getting down to the very basics with super macro views. In my early years, I had extremely poor vision and, as a consequence, I would get very close to things in order to see them. I think this handicap influenced my technique as I tend to try and create brightly colored, closely cropped, in-your-face images that are easy to see. Revealing the beauty in the mundane is my goal. I live in the countryside of western Oregon and have no trouble finding frogs, birds, mushrooms and flowers to photograph.I travel to warm waters for underwater shots as often as possible. Enjoy the photos.

How cute....

Priceless photo! It certainly give the perspective of the size of these birds, compared to the apple. Love the glint in its eye as it contemplates the apple.

Great focus and color, Jean. Poor bird - you shoulda cut the apple open for him so he could get a seed or two! :) Congrats on your First Place contest win. Congrats on your win! I love your brilliant colors and would love to hear a little more about how this image came to be...your description implies it is one found image...Either way, I love it and your title is funny
Jean Noren replied:
Hi Chris, thanks for all you kind comments. I put a tarp over my deck, put various flowers and fruit out with worms in them and just waited. If you look through my bluebird photos you will see my husband feeding a bird and that should give you an idea of how friendly they are. On this photo, I just waited till all the worms were gone and he was leaning over looking for more.
